The defendant pleaded guilty to 17 offences at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who laced candy with sedative and distributed them to children at a summer program in Leicestershire has confessed to sexual crimes against two young males both nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the facility in mid-summer.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he was present at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Yet, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was against a young boy.

The defendant was kept in jail before a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the court.

She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a youth camp which he operated.

The man played a "treat game" with the children, the prosecutor explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had played this game with the young males "for many years", and children had previously fallen ill the subsequent day.

She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had suspicions about the situation, for good reason.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel stated items including infant oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.

She explained the defendant went on to engage in the "treat game" with six children that time - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she stated further.

The regulatory agency, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative stated the youngsters were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member notified the law enforcement a second time.

She said the defendant then played the "treat game" in a area of five youngsters.
