Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Currently working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is his first championship since the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
Victory also means he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one different tournaments.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.
The player's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on court had caused observers to doubt if his skill to play at the top level was concluded.
But the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.
He came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the final five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
The opponent saved four early opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a rally at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
